New Faceless Song: Take 2!

I know it's been a while, but a lot of really exciting things have been happening, and I will update you all on them when I have the time. For now, take this pre production demo of a new faceless song (the same song which was the first post for this blog "The Eidolon Reality" and no, I don't know what that means). So here ya go, have a listen, enjoy the summer, all those fun things. I'll be back with an actual update soon.

EDIT:
Apparently the singer for the faceless has left the band. Its a sad day, but I'm sure they will be ok. The vocals on this new recording are supposedly from the new singer, so, as you can probably tell, there is really no difference in their delivery.

We're All Demons Today

Combichrist, Rammstein, and the end of the world. Squirmy, Mr. Jackson, and myself have been reveling in the sin that is Las Vegas for the past few days, and its all culminating in tonight with what promises to be one of the most epic concerts I and any of my colleagues have every been to. We will see. Also, cheeba chews or medicated chocolate cake for the show?

One more thing, the world isn't ending. Oh well, more sinning for us to do.

Peanut Cannabutter Cookies

Updates will follow as i deem them necessary.
That is all.
Edit: A few hours later
Really solid body high, and a slight goofy head high. I'm really excited about how these turned out. Props to Mr. Bucketron Lightly for his culinary skills. It wasn't a very complicated set up at all, just melted some butter in a crock pot, added about 4 months or so worth of stems and trim, and let it sit for 12 hours. After that we strained to butter and froze it. It was a nice solid green with little bit of plant sediment at the bottom, which my compatriots and I tanked cuz we don't give a shit. Then Bucket just made peanut butter cookies. Any recipe should do you fine.

Hopefully we will be able to get some pictures or maybe a video up with some of this nice new purple bud we've been getting too. Keep your eyes out for that.

Again, I'm really excited about the potency, I'm feeling pretty goofy and Squirmy described it as "getting rough and tumbly down in the pits".
Whatever that means.

Shogun 2 Totally Warthy of My Money

I pre-ordered. I played the first one, and enjoyed every ninja video, every silly spearman. It was a great game.

Shogun 2, is back to the same. So small in its scope compared to it's many predecessors it gains a great bit of atmosphere the other games could not capture. Everything is Japan; and from the music to the scream of your adviser as a group of peasant routs in dishonor.

The battles, while less varied in units are now more challenging, and diverse in location, terrain, and strategy. The AI is much less cumbersome, invading from sea, providing reinforcements to besieged settlements, ambushing in and out of battles more successfully than ever before. I find myself pausing play more and more often to check my flanks, maneuver my reserve forces, use special abilities at the right time.

The campaign map shines like never before, more lively, more colorful. The fog of war is exceptional, instead of graying and area, and removing its details, and unobserved locations is seen as though looking at an old map, faded, and hand drawn. It all adds to the mystique.

New Devin Townsend Song

Just a forewarning, this is not death metal in any way, shape or form. But it's good. Listen to it after a solid bong rip and tell me that it's not good. Or a whole bowl. Or five. Whichever way you take it.

Oh Herro BTBAM

I'm trying really hard to contain myself. So I'm just going to say it plainly. There is a 6 minute clip of the new Between The Buried And Me EP "The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues" and we are all very excited. Also, since it is an EP that 6 minutes is almost a quarter of the running time, so it is a substantial part of the music. I really like it, very exciting, especially with my other recent find, a full version of the new Protest The Hero album. Good times people.
Here's the link for the BTBAM clip

New Protest The Hero Song

So, Protest The Hero just put out a new single called "C'est La Vie" off of their new album Scurrilous, and it's pretty awesome. Sounds like Protest The Hero, but they also aren't remaking Fortress or Kezia. I love when good bands evolve into something just as good or better. Check out the song below.

Callin Out Call of Duty

Apparently this was made by the developers of the upcoming game Bulletstorm (which has a demo on xbox live now that you should check out, cuz it's really awesome) and it sums up the call of duty games pretty nicely. Enjoy

New Amon Amarth Song

So, this is "War Of The Gods" off of "Surtur Rising" which comes out on March 24th. I think it's good. Sounds like Amon Amarth, and they are nothing if not consistent. Lemme know what you guys think.

Dead Space 2 Marathon

Been playing for about 3 hours now. Last time I saw it, I think it said chapter 7 but I'm not sure. It's pretty hardcore so far, some pretty awesome moments, especially this part where you run around a moving space train. Also got to try out a new edible today called a "Cheeba Chew". It's a small tootsie roll like chocolate with around .8 grams of Hash Oil in them. This is probably the best edible I've ever had. Super potent, super awesome buzz, it's a good time. Anyways, will keep this updated about Dead Space, it's pretty awesome so far and we will see if it can hold up.

New Devin Townsend Song

It's called "Fly" and it's going to be on his next album "Ghost". Very calm song, and I'm liking the use of the flute, but I'm hoping that it is a bit lower in the mix in the studio version. Anyways, here's the video.

Thomas Giles

Tommy Rogers (of Between the Buried and Me fame) is set to release a solo project on Metal Blade on February 1st. I was hesitant at first, wondering how Tommy would fare on his own, but I also saw it as a chance for him to grow as a songwriter and a musician in general. All of the tracks have been uploaded on youtube and I am making my way through the album as I type this. And I now know that I should not have been hesitant in the slightest. Tommy is brilliant. That's really all I can say now. I will do a more in depth look at the album once I have finished listening to it. For now I leave you with my current favorite track off of Pulse, called "Hypoxia". Once again the album is out February 1st on Metal Blade Records. Before I forget, here is the link to the youtube channel where all the tracks are posted. Go check em out and let me know what you guys think.
Enjoy

Best Metal Releases of 2010

Alright, I shall count down from 10 until I get to my favorite release. (I say release because one of my picks is an EP, which I guess is technically not an album). Lets get to it.

10. Burning The Masses - "Offspring of Time"

This one came out of nowhere and surprised me. Burning The Masses have always impressed me with their musicianship, what with their sweep picking and their breakdowns, but this one drew me in unlike many other so-called "deathcore" releases. Also, Big Chocolate is a beast of a vocalist, and it's nice to hear him on an album with more than just chugs for guitar parts.

9. Iron Thrones - "The Wretched Sun"

An unsigned band with more chops than pretty much everything on Roadrunner. I like. Their post metal stylings, soft, meandering ambient parts, and the aggression and sadness that comes through on this album is unlike any other. Keep an eye out for these guys. They're gonna be big.

8. Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire - "Songs of Ill Hope And Desperation"

This album is the result of the distillation of hatred and the human condition, set to ferment in fecal matter for an indefinite period of time. Anger encapsulated in waveforms. I'm proud to say these guys are from my home state of Colorado. This is the music of the disillusionment that this world can create. I can't say enough good things about this album. In Crust We Trust.

7. Misery Index - "Heirs To Thievery"

A strong follow up to one of my favorite death/grind albums of all time "Traitors", Misery Index continues to do what it does best, talking about politics, being angry about said politics, and then playing really fast about said politics. And I hope they never change.

6. Beneath The Massacre - "Marée Noire EP"

Another band that always seems to impress. Every single person involved in this band has some serious chops. Everything is heavy. Everything is techy. These canadians are crazy. I once saw them put on a 15 minute long set at Summer Slaughter 2009. It was the most intense thing of the night (minus Suffocation) and immediately after their set I went to their merch booth, bought 2 shirts, 2 cds and a sticker. I put that sticker on my car. If that's not a compliment, I don't know what is.

5. Wormrot - "Abuse US Reissue"

Filipino Grindcore. That's really all I should have to say. These guys came out of nowhere for me, but the second I heard them I was in love. They filled the void left in my heart when Insect Warfare broke up, and I hope they never leave me. They even did an insect warfare cover, which gives them bonus points. It's my blog, I can give bonus points if I want to.

4. Circle of Dead Children - "Psalm Of The Grand Destroyer"

They are the masters of Grind. A constant inspiration to me, their lyrics are almost like poetry sometimes. Rife with polysemy (that is, multitudes of meanings)I can listen to this album over and over and still find new things to decipher, ponder, and discuss.

3. The Ocean Collective - "Heliocentric/Anthropocentric"

I've talked about these guys on here enough, So I don't want to repeat myself. It's an audio journey, rivaled only by their previous full length "Precambrian".

2. Agalloch - "Marrow Of The Spirit"

Agalloch is the type of band that you almost have to force yourself to like. They are not very accessible, but once you break through, there is absolutely nothing like them. This album is the soundtrack to every snowy day I live through here in Colorado, and even though it can be solemn and almost depressing, it is still a beautiful experience, one which is only topped by my number one pick.

1. The Dillinger Escape Plan - "Option Paralysis"

While Agalloch is good for snowy days, The Dillinger Escape Plan covers everything else. This album has everything that I love about metal. And yet, it passes beyond even that genre tag. This is simply music, with something for everyone. I have converted many non-metal heads by playing Widower for them, which I think is a testament to TDEP's musical ability. If you haven't listened to this, you are missing out on something truly beautiful, and you should be ashamed of yourself for waiting this long to listen to it.

So there you have it, my favorite metal releases of 2010. Lot's of stuff to look forward to next year too. See you on the flip side.

Happy New Year

It's 2011 now. Only one more year til the zombies come. Make good use of your time.
